At the conclusion of today’s clash between Richmond CC and Dandenong CC at Shepley Oval, the inaugural Peter Davies Medal will be presented to the Player of the Match. Peter Davies, who sadly passed away in March 2018, was a champion player for Waverley CC (now Dandenong) and Richmond CC, playing 173 games for Waverley and 96 for Richmond over a marvellous Premier career that spanned 21 seasons, 8088 runs, 14 centuries and 56 wickets. Peter played six 1st class games for Victoria, with a highest score of 57.
Peter (or ‘Basil’ as he was often known) was a much-loved character in Premier cricket, a respected captain and a hard-hitting left handed bat. His stellar contribution to Victorian cricket connects two clubs to each other, and connects each club to their own storied histories – Dandenong to their Waverley roots, and Richmond to Punt Road Oval where Peter played much of his cricket.
We thank Peter’s wife Kim, his parents John and Jenifer (John also played 89 First XI games for Richmond, both supported by Jenifer all along the way) and his sister Julie-Anne for this opportunity to honour Peter in this way, and look forward to an exciting clash at Shepley this week.
